Journey to Nepemachhal, the hidden Beyul (Valley) of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava)

Praised in the holy text Bharjelamshel as one of the ten most beautiful places on earth, this sacred valley holds the thousand-year-old Chhendang Gumba, Tongsuv Cave where Guru Rinpoche taught 10,000 pilgrims, his sacred bed, and the golden kalash known as Bumbu Sherpu.

Above it rises Phurbi Chyachu (6,637 m), the sacred phurba of Vajrakilaya. As revered Buddhist masters teach, Guru Rinpoche drove this cosmic dagger into the sky to pin down the demons of the land and open Jugal Himal as a hidden Beyul. At dawn, it glows gold.

Here, every step is a prayer.

Spiritual Himalayan Experience

About Jugal Base Camp

Jugal Base Camp is more than a trek. It is a journey into raw Himalayan wilderness, along ancient pilgrim trails, through a Beyul (hidden valley) where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) meditated in the 8th century.

Here, the old rituals are still alive. Prayer flags carry blessings on the wind, juniper smoke rises at dawn, butter lamps glow in quiet gumbas, and travellers walk clockwise around mani stones and sacred lakes, as pilgrims have for centuries.

To the people of Jugal, the mountains are not only peaks. They are protectors and living deities, to be honoured with respect, silence and gratitude. We walk slowly, leave no trace, and take only blessings and memories with us.

Located below the majestic Jugal Himal range, this route offers solitude, sacred caves and lakes, living mountain culture, and the timeless warmth of Himalayan hospitality, far from crowded tourist trails.

Our Vision & Mission

Jugal Base Camp was created to introduce trekkers to one of Nepal’s most overlooked yet breathtaking Himalayan regions: a Beyul (hidden valley) blessed by Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) in the 8th century. Our mission is to deliver meaningful trekking experiences that respect nature, honour sacred traditions, celebrate local culture, and provide safe, professionally guided adventures.

We believe every step on these trails can be a prayer. We walk with deep respect for the sacred caves, lakes and peaks of Jugal, and we invite every traveller to do the same. We work closely with local communities to ensure tourism benefits the people who call these mountains home, while protecting the land, its spirit and its traditions for generations to come.

Our vision: a Himalaya where adventure, faith and nature live in harmony.

Our Story

Rooted in the Himalayas

The trails to Jugal Base Camp have been walked for generations by local villagers, herders, and traders. These mountains are not just landmarks — they are part of daily life, history, and tradition.

Jugal Base Camp was born from a desire to share this hidden region with travellers who value authenticity over popularity. By opening this route to responsible trekking, we aim to preserve the spirit of the Himalayas.

Local partner: In 2025, the youth team of the Jugal Tourism Promotion and Environmental Conservation Forum Nepal (JTPEcF-Nepal), an independent local organisation, put up the first board at Jugal Himal View Point and began promoting Jugal as a new trekking destination. Jugal Base Camp is proud to support their work, and a portion of every trek fee goes to JTPEcF-Nepal.

“This journey is not about conquering mountains — it’s about respecting them.”
