Jugal Base Camp Trek Route Map

How to reach Jugal Base Camp (4,700 m) below Jugal Himal in Sindhupalchok, Nepal. This trekking map shows both road routes from Kathmandu – via Chautara or via Balephi – and the trail through Panch Pokhari, Chhendang Gumba, Tongsyup Gufa, the sacred valley of Ne-Pemachhal and Palmothang, with views of Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m) and Phurbi Chhyachu (6,637 m).

Fastest route: 4–5 days

Drive from Kathmandu to Bandeu, then either up to Chautara and along the link road via Kubinde to Naubise, or through Balephi and turn up to Naubise. Continue by road via Jalbire, Kartike, Tembathang and Dipu village to Chhendang Gumba, then trek to Ne-Pemachhal.

At Ne-Pemachhal the trail splits – decide with your guide there
  • For the best views → Jugal Himal View Point. This route passes Bumbu Sherpu, which has a hut for shelter on the way.
  • For altitude and the real achievement → Jugal Base Camp (4,700 m) via Palmothang. There are no huts after Ne-Pemachhal on this route, so you need full camping support.

Route A · Panch Pokhari – Jugal Circuit Trail 8–12 DAYS

Chautara – Chyochyo Danda – Panch Pokhari – Jugal Base Camp

  1. Kathmandu → Dolalghat → Bandeu → Chautara (1,450 m)
  2. Gaurati Temple → Syaule → Lami Danda → Maidan (road ends)
  3. Trek: Chyochyo Danda → Nunthala → Nosyampati → Panch Pokhari (4,055 m)
  4. Nema Gchukpa Kharka (3,580 m) → Chhendang Gumba (2,635 m)

Note: the Balephi road continues to Barabise – that is not the way to Jugal.

Trek to Jugal Base Camp

  1. Chhendang Gumba (2,635 m) – both routes meet
  2. Tongsyup Gufa, the sacred cave of Guru Rinpoche
  3. Ne-Pemachhal (3,500 m), the hidden Beyul – the trail splits here
    • Route 1 · Jugal Base Camp: Palmothang (3,900 m) → Jugal Base Camp (4,700 m). No huts after Ne-Pemachhal – full camping support needed.
    • Route 2 · Jugal Himal View Point: Bumbu Sherpu (4,200 m, hut) → Jugal Himal View Point at Gyap Kharka (4,400 m).
